I have an MA in Creative Writing, am an established short story writer and a published novelist. I also have a BSc (Hons) in Biology and an MSc in Ecology. I used to work as a scientist but now edit (mostly fiction) for private clients, small presses, as well as being a core editor appraising manuscripts for Cornerstones Literary Consultancy. I co-run short story publisher Bridge House Publishing and have a small children's press called Paws n Claws Publishing that have published children's own stories and The Jet-Set books for animal charity, The Born Free Foundation.
I wrote my first novel, a Famous Five rip-off, at the tender age of nine! Of course it was never published but it gave me a taste of what I truly wanted to be in life. I never gave up on my writing dream!
My first short story was published in 2010 and now over thirty shorts have been published in various collections and I've had a couple of competition wins! I won the inaugural Bath Short Story Award in 2013 and was shortlisted in the prestigious Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2013 with only one other UK writer.
My debut novel, While No One Was Watching, was published in 2013 and I am now represented by Johnson & Alcock Literary Agency. There are several more novels written or being edited that I hope will find homes soon and I still have success with short stories as I think this keeps the writing sharp.
I left my day job in 2010 to finally pursue my writing dream. (Scary!) I did copy editing and proof reading courses and passed my MA that year, so I could not only be a better writer, but could help other writers.
I feel truly blessed that I get to do what I love every single day. I write in the mornings from super early, and do my paid editing and mentoring work in the afternoons and evenings. I always have plenty of work and my lovely clients keep on coming back time and time again for everything from full structural edits/critiques through to final proof reads. I work on novels, non-fiction books and short stories! And I totally love my writerly life.
